A wide variety of local businesses and food vendors showcased their products at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair Monday, Oct 17

Hundreds of patrons lined up on the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair Ground to be the first to experience this year's  selection of vendors and attractions.

The Southern Cruisers, a long time vendor for the fair was in attendance. The Statesboro based car club has donated a vintage car to charity at the event every year for the past 26 years. When asked about their history, longtime member Carrol Williams Stated, ”We started in 1991, and we celebrated our 26th anniversary this year. The point of this club is to showcase nice cars & contribute  the proceeds to charities in our local area.”. This year they were showcasing a beautiful sky blue 1959 Austin Healey Bug Eyed Sprite. The original owner of the vehicle, Suzy Schoppenhorst was in attendance.  “Two weeks ago all that was on this car was these back wheels. There was nothing else on the car but rusted metal.” Schoppenhorst has valued the car at anywhere between $20,000-$25,000.

The food vendors were also out in full force last evening, from corn dogs to funnel cakes patrons had dozens of traditional carnival food options. The Statesboro High School band booster club  had set up a cotton candy booth at the fair. Booster President Perla Middleton was leading the organization as they pushed out  hundreds orders of delicious cotton candy to customers. “We have been working the fair for maybe 10 to 12 years…This year we are raising money for new tubas which cost $6,000 a piece.” said Middleton.  The band has plans to compete at the regional festival at Statesboro High School on Oct 29

Many people consider the food most notably the funnel cake as the best part of the fair.  Middleton states ”If I had to choose one food besides cotton candy, it would definitely be the funnel cake”   Georgia Southern Sophomore Jadin Cross stated, “ funnel cakes are my favorite carnival food”.

The Statesboro Kiwanis International Club hosts the fair every year and  all money raised from the is given back to the community and the communities of our seven participating counties, Bulloch, Bryan, Candler, Evans, Tattnall, Jenkins & Screven counties.
